Question: I had a viral blood test done and the results are
very HIGH Cytomegalovirus IgG +10 /
HHV 6 IgG Antibodies HIGH 2.97 /
HSV IgM I/II combination HIGH 1.21 /
Mycoplasma pneu. IgG/IgM abs HIGH 1804 /
HSV 1 & 2 - specific Ab, IgG HIGH 47.80
Obviously, i'm not feeling well but not specifically "sick" , can you shed some light on what this means to you?

Brief Answer:
it means nothing more than that you have come into contact with pathogens

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

IgG antibodies start to increase a few days after an infection, they rise for a month or more and they remain high (in most cases) as a reminiscent of the old infection. IgM for herpes (HSV) is not very helpful but a positive result indicates either recent infection or reactivation. Significantly rising IgG antibodies over a couple of weeks or more usually indicate acute infection, although they serve only as a confirmation of the diagnosis after the patient has already recovered.

So unless you have specific symptoms that may involve these pathogens, the results do not help a lot...

Please describe your situation in more detail. What made you visit the doctor?

Kind Regards!

Here's a brief recap of my history...

Diagnosed with Hashimotos at 20 years old I have been on syntheroid ever since. In my 30's i started have trouble sleeping. Not that i didnt sleep, but i wont up very tired. I did a sleep study and fell asleep in 7 minutes even with electrodes everywhere.. I was diagnosed with a typical apnea. I'm 5'7 145lbs at that time, so it wasnt weight related but I would wake out of REM sleep 87 times a night (2 studies) they gave me a CPAP machine that did not work for me so I was sent to an endocrinologist. I was then diagnonsed with PCOS for insulin resistance, irregular periods and a resistance to weight loss. I was not obese, did not have extra hair growth and did not have scan on overies but I was put on Glucophage. At first that worked very well, lost 15 lbs adn felt great. About 2 - 3 years on glucophage I started to become very ill. Terrible stomach indigestion, hair loss, age spots and body oder on right side of my body, very weak and tired. I was diagnonsed with extreme B defficiency and since then have become Intrinsic Factor positive. I started getting B shots and it worked temporarily but nothing remarkable. I was getting sores under my nails, I had shingles at 45, cancer sores on my nose and in my mouth/throat off and on, always run down. I went to the Mayo and had multiple tests done revealing that i needed to stop the Glucaphage and that i had a "faulty" gall baldder to follow up on at home. I gained back the weight but felt better after being off the glucophage My problems became more centered around my stomach problems, I had trouble swallowing (low motility) and gall bladder pain and started taking prilosec every night ( 4-5 years ago). subsequent to that I tested MTHFR homozygous and was told to get metholated B vitamins. that helped and i'm not as sick as I was when taking glucaphage but the symptoms i have now and can not get rid of are - extreme fatigue after eating as well as My eyes get extremely dry after eating "anything", (FYI I dont have food allergies I have been tested). I have a very clean diet and am willing to try anything to feel better. Overall I have very little energy and extreme mental fog and memory loss, i cannot lose weight even though i exercise, have a happy marriage, great kids and have a clean diet ( I am gluten free and dairy free as of 15 months ago, but symptoms persist) i just cannot feel good. I just had a test that came back with extremely low adrenal hormone, (my blood pressure has been low for years 90/57) so i was put on cortex for 6 weeks and just got off of it. I "used" to be the life of the party and now i dont leave the house much. I used to work and volunteer and paint (my paintings were in galleries) I just cant manage it any longer. I had these viral tests done because i dont know what else to do. I would love your interpretation of all of this.

Brief Answer:
tough case!

Detailed Answer:
I understand your desperation! There are two conditions that seem relevant to your symptoms from your history. I would rate the sleep apnea as the most important one. Adrenal insufficiency is the other.

I don't know if something else was tried regarding your sleep apnea but this is an issue that has to be addressed somehow. Sleep apnea may be the sole explanation of your symptoms besides feeling dry after eating, which is an atypical symptom (cannot be related to any disease in particular).

I would recommend at least supplemental oxygen during the night if you can't tolerate the mask. It's not very clear to me whether you couldn't tolerate it or if it was tolerable but ineffective... If it is the first, then perhaps giving it another try is worth the effort.

The second issue here is the adrenal problem. What happened? What was the diagnosis? Did you get better with therapy? Why did you stop it?

And also, if all else fails and no organic cause can be found, you should try talking to a psychiatrist to assess you for depression. Depression may also cause your symptoms.

Finally, since you've had viral tests, I suppose you've done also tests for the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), right?

negative Ebstein-Barr test. My apnea was A typical, There was no drop in oxygen levels, the tried the cpap just in case it would help but it did not. my sleep study showed that i came out of REM 87 times in the cycle but not due to oxygen levels. They said that there was a connection between insulin resistance and sleep disturbances, so i was sent to the Endo, who put me on glucaphage. Most of my dramatic symptoms comes from the reaction to glucaphage and the blocking of the vitamin B absorption and gastric issues/gall bladder. A lot of it subsided after going off Glucophage, but i am left with the same fatigue after eating and overall malaise & head fog. My hormones are normal. I did start taking a low dosage of wellbuterin because the cortisone was making me depressed (prior to taking it I had not been) because it was making me feel so ill. I am still taking it now and dont feel depressed except that i have no energy, which is upsetting. The adrenals have not been checked since my initial test - actually to be more clear it was early morning cortisol levels 5.8 - not specific adrenals. I was told it was my adrenals because my BP is very low. most of my symptoms seem to occur after eating, is it possible that being on the prilosec for so long has adversely effected me? I went on Prilosec due to the damage from the glucophage and have been on it for many years, i cant seem to get off it. could that be the root of what is going on with me? I cant put into words what a different person i am compared to 5 years ago. I'm 51, size 10, happily married, healthy kids and parents, great friends, financially stable - life is good and i'm wasting it by having to rest so much... this is not who i am/was. I am tired all the time...

Brief Answer:
glucophage can be used if it helps

Detailed Answer:
I see...

So was it apnea (no breathing) or just sleep disturbances? If it was only the latter then perhaps a sleep inducing pill might worth a try (at least for a while).

Since glucophage helped you get better, why don't you try it once more? You can take supplemental B12 to make sure it's absorbed adequately or even start monthly intramuscular B12 injections.

I doubt that prilosec caused this situation, although you can try stopping it for a few days to see what happens.

Finally the adrenals issue needs clarification by the endocrinologist. Cortisole imbalance may affect you both organically and psychologically.

Kind Regards!
