Question: I got my MRI of my brain back with contrast and the impression was mucosal disease within bilateral mastoid air cells. Is his something to be concerned about. I can't find any direct answers. I suffer from severe headaches and pressure in my head. I can feel when my left pupil gets large and my right one gets small at the same time. My ears pop everytime I swallow. I was just hospitalized for three days because I was having seizures which we though were electrical because I have epilepsy. But I only ever had one 9 minute grand mal seizure back in 2000. I had over 40 episodes and 15 were on an eeg monitor video so they said they were pseudo seizures. In 2001 I had a spinal fusion lamenectomy at the L3-L4 region and woke up paralyzed. Under went another emergency surgery and woke up paralyzed from the waist down. I eventually got the use of my legs back from intense physical therapy but still suffer from nerve damage from the waist down. My doctor lost my medical records and told me this never happened to any of his patients before. All I know about the surgery is I had two blood transfusions and I had a blood clot but I don't know where it was. Since then I had a full hysterectomy because of endometriosis And I have unspecified anemia. I suffer from muscle, joint and skeletal pain. I have seen over 100 doctors and they all think I have an immune deficiency disease. I also suffer from severe chronic fatigue syndrome and have other diseases and disc problems in my back. I still have the Pedicle screws, plates and rods in my back since the surgery. Every doctor I see just wants to send me to the Mayo Clinic and I live in Pennsylvania. Any help you can give even if it is the answer to my very first question I thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ heart! Sincerely, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Mucosal disease not a dangerous condition, consider autoimmune diseases.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Mucosal disease within mastoid air cells, is a possible finding after infections (viral and bacterial ) that may affect middle ear too besides mastiods (mastoiditis).

Since there is no active infection, this is not a dangerous condition.

Headaches and pressure may be symptoms of such conditions.

About the unspecified anemia, in my opinion, anemia of chronic diseases (inflammatory anemia) should be considered and evaluated by blood tests such ferritin levels.

Anemia is often accompanied by chronic fatigue.

Waking up paralyzed and need for blood transfusion after spine surgery may be related to surgical complications such epidural or subdural spinal hematoma.

Muscles, joints and skeletal pain may be symptoms of autoimmune diseases such arthritis, lupus etc., but infections such brucellosis also, so, it is necessary to get evaluated by proper blood tests about these conditions too.

Autoimmune diseases may be responsible for degenerative discs diseases.

Since MRI didn't find any brain lesions, epilepsy is a separate condition that needs treatment with antiseizure drugs.

So, in conclusion, it is necessary to get evaluated further in order to get a correct diagnosis of your concerns.

Only after a correct diagnosis, treatment may be effective.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards.
