Question: Need help interpreting MRI in English. Mass found in the sella turcica in the expected region of the pit. gland. 11x13x11. The pituitary infundibulum is slightly displaced to the right and mass has homogeneous signal. FLAIR sequences demonstrate increased signal of the periventricular white matter and several small foci of abnormal increased signal throughout the white matter of the cerebrum in a nonspecific pattern. Small chronic lacunar infarcts identified in the bilateral basal ganglia

Brief Answer:
MRI findings explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Sella turcica is the bony part where pituitary gland rests.

Mass found in the sella turcica means there is found a tumor in the pituitary gland with the mentioned measures.

Homogeneous mass means the tumor is likely a benign one ( pituitary Adenoma, Meningioma ) and displacement of infundibulum means that the part where pituitary gland connects to brain is displaced by tumor mass effect.

Increased FLAIR ( one of the MRI sequences ) of the periventricular white matter and cerebellum means there multiple small damages of brain around ventricles and of small brain. These damages are most often found in patients suffering from uncontrolled high blood pressure that damages small brain vessels ( small artery disease ).

Basal ganglia are deep brain structures that control all aspects of movements.

Small chronic lacunar infarcts means small old strokes have happened.

Hope I've been understandable.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Take care.

Would this cause frequent falls and memory loss?
Are there meds to remedy the problem

Answered by Dr. Dr. Erion Spaho (14 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Falls and memory problems related to stroke.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Falls and memory problems are not related to pituitary mass, most likely they are conseguences of brain damage by multiple strokes.

Unfortunately there is no definitive treatment about stroke, controlling risk factors such high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions together with use of Aspirin could help prevent further stroke and could improve at least partially your condition.

Hope I helped you.

Wishing you good health.
