Question: I recently had a cardiac workup done that included a nuclear imaging test, echocardiogram and coronary angiogram since I presented with symptoms of atypical chest pain and simultaneous severe acid reflux/stomach pain. The echocardiogram was completely normal. The EKG stress test was also normal. The coronary angiogram showed no disease in any artery except "very mild coronary atherosclerosis involving a discrete 20% mid-LAD (with no associated calcification)". Is this a serious condition? Can it be reversed due to the mild nature and discrete location? Should I consider myself to have heart disease? I have been on a statin and Aspirin for several years and my lipid profile is normal.

Brief Answer:
Not significant atherosclerosis

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Coronary atherosclerosis with 20% of narrowing of coronary arteries isn't a heart disese yet. It can't cause any harm to your heart as the blood supply will be the same as in arteries without narrowing.
If you follow healthy lifestyle and take your statin, there are good chances that the atherosclerosis will be stable and there will be no progress .

Take care

Thank-you for your prompt response. Considering that the stenosis is discrete and low (20%) in one location only, will diet, exercise and statin be able to reverse the narrowing? Or is it permanent and can only remain the same or increase?
