What Does The Following Widal Test Report Indicate?

Question: Dear Doctor

My wife's widal ( Slide )test report says S.typhi H Antigen : Titre 1:80 Positive Kindly interpret this and let me know if this is anything serious

Thanks for posting your query.

Widal is a test done to diagnose Typhoid fever. But the problem of this test is , if done early , that is if the test is done before 5-7 days of fever it may not show any positivity inspite of Typhoid infection.

Also in many condition the result may come falsely positive . So as of your wife's report is concerned a value of 1:80 is not taken as positive. A value of 160 or more is taken as positive . So the report is considered as Negative.

So there is nothing serious about the report. If Fever persists I recommend a different test called IgM Typhi Dot which is a better test for Typhoid than Widal.
