What Does The Following Colon Cancer Report Indicate?

Question: Hello

I need an opinion regarding my father recently diagnosed with colon ca
72 years old
PMH:
Dm type 2
Thyrotoxicosis
Af
Hypertension

Symptoms were lethargy ,and he dropped from 14 to 8 in 4 months and intermittent abdominal pain,with normal bowel movements and no blood in stools..
ct showed : 10 cm tumour transverse colon ( hepatic flexure) multiple lymph node involvement abdominal, and a shadow on rt kidney not deep ( ? Separate tumour).
We are advised to have the surgery done in 1st instance and then to plan further.
My question is that can we not avoid surgery, keeping in mind the age and comorbidities,and surgical complications.
Any alternate choices??

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concerns. However, colon cancer localized to colon and lymph nodes is best treated by surgery. In fact, it is the only hope for cure. Other treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy will be palliative if surgery is not done.

Diabetes, hypertension and thyrotoxicosis can be tackled medically before the surgery so that risks are minimized.
