What Does The Following PAP Smear Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX
This is a follow up question for the one I asked you 2-3 days back, regarding PAP Smear test. I got the test reports, and wanted to understand how should that be interpreted. Below are the details:

Specimen: Cervical Cytological Preparation. Two unstained slides received in slide mailer labelled with two identifiers.

Microscopic Examination: 2001 BETHESDA System

Statement of Adequacy: Smears are satisfactory for evaluation. However, Smears show Marked Drying Artifcats. Transformation Zone Component present.

Microscopy: Superficial and Intermediate squamous Epthelial cells seen against a background of Moderate Neutrophilic Inflammation.

Interpretation: Negative for Intraepithelial Lesion for Malignancy.

Also, as part of my ultrasound test, they've seen 2 cms an echoic cyst - Dominant follicle in the left ovary. What does this mean?

Please note that all these tests were doen as part of my general health check up.

Brief Answer:
all reports are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, im happy to inform you that your PAP Test is perfectly normal.
There is no risk of malignancy and no infection present.
Small drying artifacts are very common but since report says satisfactory sample so nothing to worry.
Ultrasound report is also normal and the anechoic cyst is the dominant follicle which is there in each menstrual cycle in all women of reproductive age group.
Wish you the best of health.
