Question: I have attached an MRI report on my father, age 53, who underwent allogeneic stem cell transplant for ALL on 2/18/15. His MRI is abnormal, and my question is if you could help me interpret these findings. Could someone with these findings ever recover? Thank you for your insight.

Brief Answer:
MRI report shows spreading of infection,

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

I have read your father's MRI uploaded report too.

Those MRI findings indicate that there's spreading of the viral infection on right temporal lobe and its surroundings.

Recovery depends on viral infection treatment and treatment depends on first finding the causative organism ( in this case most probably virus), by blood serology, or by cerebrospinal fluid examination.

If treated correctly, then there may happen recovery.

Hope I helped the. I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Best regards.

The lumbar puncture revealed HHV6 detected but too low (<1000) to quantify. CSF was clear, but significant for 98% lymphocytes. Are these findings on the MRI indicative of irreversible brain damage?

Brief Answer:
Damages may be permanent.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

HVV6 usually is related to encephalitis in immunocompromised patients.

Clear CSF with elevated white cells results indicate acute infection of nervous system.

Unfortunately, changes found in MRI may be permanent damages of brain, as encephalitis related to Viral infection may result in permanent neurological diseases such epilepsies, dementia etc.

Hope this helps. Best regards.
