Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: what does this mean on my brain mri report? There are no findings suggestive of a movement disorder origination from the brain, brainstem, or cerebellum. Specifically there is no evidence for multisystem atrophy, normal pressure hydrocephalus, olivopontocerebellar degeneration, or progressive supranuclear palsy.
There are findings that may represent mild microvascular ischemic change.

Brief Answer:
There are small areas in brain showing slightly deficient blood supply

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. There are no findings suggestive of a movement disorder origination from the brain, brain stem, or cerebellum.

I suppose you have been investigated for a possible movement disorder. This line confirms that there is no such finding in the parts of the brain including the brainstem and cerebellum which can be associated with any movement disorder.

2. Specifically there is no evidence for multisystem atrophy, normal pressure hydrocephalus, olivopontocerebellar degeneration, or progressive supranuclear palsy.

This line says that the listed conditions which usually cause such a movement disorder are absent. Multisystem atrophy, normal pressure hydrocephalus, olivopontocerebellar degeneration, or progressive supranuclear palsy are abnormal conditions that can cause movement disorders in the patient. You do not have any of these causes.

3. There are findings that may represent mild microvascular ischemic change.

There are small vessels that supply blood to the deeper parts of the brain. In your MRI scan, these small vessels show deficient blood flow in certain areas and therefore there are small areas in the brain where there are changes visualized due to reduced blood supply. This is not a large area but refers to multiple small areas. This pattern of findings is usually expected to be seen in the elderly. It is also seen in people who have diabetes or hypertension and are are in their middle age. This is not an emergency condition or serious concern but can cause a wide range of symptoms.

Your doctor will examine you clinically and tell you if this is causing any of your symptoms.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
