What Does Slightly Elevated Bilirubin Level Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I am a 49 year male who just had blood work for Insurance purposes. My results came back at: Bilirubin at 1.58. I do not have jaundice, nor am I sick, but am concerned. Could it be Gilbert's syndrome. I do take pills for heartburn so I am not sure if my gastro is to blame. Please to advise.

URN Specific gravity is 1.036
HDL 36.4 and Triglycerides 204. Thanks, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking

I read carefully all your concerns and understood your query.

You are reporting to have slightly elevated bilirubin level(1.58) with normal liver panel. To my opinion your bilirubin level is related with Gilbert's syndrome since you have normal liver panel and no other findings on your blood work.

With regards to Triglyceride level it is moderately high. This is why I strongly advice to :
- start hypolipemiant( lipid lowering drugs) treatment and healthy diet
- increase physical activity
-perform abdominal ultrasound to rule out fatty liver.

Wish you all the best.
