What Does Presence Of Endometrial Cells In PAP Test Indicate?
Question: I have Endometrial cells found in my recent Pap test. I am 50 years old and starting have irregular period and the period before the Pap test was pretty light bleeding. Just wondering if the endometrial cells in Pap test could be from my last period a month ago? Is further test required/recommended?

The presence of normal endometrial cells in PAP test in perimenopausal age group is not worrisome. It can be a normal finding from the exfoliated cells from the uterine cavity. It is usually not related to your last periods. This is less likely to be endometrial tissue in the cervical canal. It is best to get a repeat PAP smear done after 6 months and see if the endometrial cells are persistent.

Thanks for your reply. My OB doctor had suggested a medical procedure that use a long brush to get into uterus to get sample tissues for biopsy, just to make sure there is no cancer. Is it necessary?
The following are some related facts that I would like to share with you:
1. My period has become irregular since last July when I was traveling to oversea. Not sure if it's due to the reason that I was tired during the trip. My period at July had very light bleeding, and then August had no period. My normal bleeding period resumed on September and last until this April. Then I traveled again on April and my next period on May was delayed for like 10 days and was light bleeding again. I had no period on XXXXXXX then I had this light bleeding on July 14 and there are only some spots as of today.
2. My Pap test sampling was done at XXXXXXX 30, it was 6 weeks after my light bleeding period in May 23.
3. I had high sedimentation rate from both blood tests last year. But my doctor said it's most likely related to my Sjogren. I do have joint inflammation.
So given the above facts, do you think I should do the uterus sample procedure for further investigation? I am concerned about the high sedimentation rate and I hope it's only caused by Sjogren.

It is best to go for brush biopsy and rule out endometrial cancer. There is no harm in going for the procedure and it will help in early diagnosis of endometrial cancer.
