default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, several days ago I have had a pain between the left sternum and left breast. I talked about costochondritis, but to touch me lying down I feel this inflammation most near the areola. To the touch feels very hard. Just where have the pain to begun to leave a stain white from the skin to the areola that me has faded the same. In this moment is observed as if the areola outside a circle incomplete in the edges. I mean is as if had deleted me part of the edge of the areola. I am very concerned. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Its less likely to be a cancer. More like an inflammation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

First I want to reassure you that if pain its involved, its less likely it can be a breast cancer, if it is that that you are fearing.
So it is most probable that it is an inflammation.
From what you are describing seems like it is localized in the breast and not in the sternum/ribs, unless you have a small breast so would be easy to palpate the bones over the breast tissue.

I would say that you put some ice on it once in a while.
Take Ibuprofen 400mg for the pain, every 6 hours, as needed.
If the area feels hot, its red or if feels like there is fluid under it, then you should see a local doctor to examine you, and do an ultrasound.

Hope this is helpful.
