What Does Orange Coloured Mucus In The Stool Indicate After Eating Pizza And Mexican Food?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Oct 2018
Question: Just turned 50. I have a dark mucus that I thought was blood on outside of stool. When taking a closer look it is orange and doesn't seem to be blood. My doctor has stated I have IBS and I've lost 87 pounds in one year. However, I eat a lot of Mexican, spaghetti and pizza (just much less). Within stool I find little black specks only to look closer and it is undigested food. I have severe health anxiety and am being treated for it. I also have OCD so this is a big deal to me. I have a mother in law currently being treated for cancer and I really want to wait for a colon test. My doctor has seen pictures of the mucus and states its IBS and food related. Nothing seems to be floating in toilet and no blood seems to be found.

Brief Answer:

Mucous is a result of excessive shedding of the mucosa.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Increased mucous is due to shedding of intestinal mucosa mixed with pus and sometimes germs and blood.

Losing 87 pounds in one year and no obvious cause can be due to many causes.

I hope all the relevant tests were done before diagnosing it as IBS.

The tests include complete blood count, Widal test for typhoid, thyroid profile, liver function test, kidney function test, fasting blood sugar levels, ultrasound abdomen.

Stool examination for ova and parasites, culture and sensitivity can provide some clue. Since you are 50 yr, you are also eligible for colonoscopy but it's not an emergency.

If you have already done tests, then please upload reports for me to view.

My recommendation is to implement lifestyle measures.

It includes eating hygienic food, cleaner drinking water, more fruits and salad, less sugar, fewer milk products. Exercise regularly for at least 30 min per day.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
