What Does My Widal Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Dec 2015
Question: Hi doctor,

I had typhoid in 2012 and was treated. Last to last week I had fever less than or equal to 98 F for two days after which I had a widal test in which Typhi O was 1/80 and Typhi H was 1/160 and rest two values were 1/20. I was prescribed with antibiotic for one week. Now the report says Typhi H as 1/80 and rest three as 1/20. Is it normal now? I am having cough as well. Cough has been there since two weeks now.

Brief Answer:
Your Typhoid is cured.

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXXXXX

Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic.

In Widal test a value of 1/80 is not considered as Typhoid , a value of 1/160 or more is taken as Typhoid. Now after treatment the value has reduced from 1/160 to 1/80, this is indicative of cure .

Don't expect the value to fall to Zero , that may never happen at all. If there is no fever then you are cured of Typhoid.

Cough is not related to Typhoid, your cough is either due to Throat or Lung infection or Allergy.

I need to know whether

1. Your Cough is dry cough or wet cough? If wet what is the color of Sputum?
2. Any throat pain or Irritation?
3. Any nasal congestion or running nose?
4. Any breathing difficulty?

Kindly let me know these details for further advise.

Regards.

Thanks a lot Doctor. Regarding the cough, it is wet and the colour of sputum is normal. Its not yellow or green. No running nose as such. I was taking grillinctus syrup since yesterday without doctors prescription but I felt little increase in my heartbeat and had a temperature of 98.3 F today morning after which I stopped that. Any precaution needed so that typhoid doesnt get repeated and any suggestions for cough?

Brief Answer:
Do salt water gargling.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Cough might be due to allergy and not looking like infectious. Do salt water gargling, drink hot water, eat less oily food and avoid Citrus fruits.

Instead of Grilinctus you can take Syrup Tus Q X which is an expectorant and helps is bringing out the sputum more efficiently.

Precaution for Typhoid is to take care of your eating and drinking habits. Avoid eating outside especially at unhygienic places . Wash your hands before having food always. Drink hot water only.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.
