What Does My Renal Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?
Your honest and educated answer would be greatly appreciated. I would like for you to explain the results of a Renal that I did. First I will explain to you my situation:
During about the final weeks in March, I started having pain in my abdomen. At least I'm not sure if it was in my abdomen, but the pain was mainly on my right side and near my stomach area. The pain would also travel to my back. Sometimes it has a burning sensation. I also felt movements and thought I was pregnant but various pregnancy tests and having menstrual periods proved wrong. The pain seems worst at night. I went to the doctor and explained to him my problems. I did a pap-smear about the first week in April. 2 weeks later I got the results of the pap smear which showed that I had an infection. He gave me gyno-tran ovules to take. And told me the infection was probably the cause of my pain and that the gyno-tran should resolve it.
A week or so later I went back to the doctor because the pain was still there. Also when I stooled there was little blood in my stool(I did not tell the doc this because I forgot at the time). Anyways, he suggested that I do a ultrasound. I did the ultrasound about the first week in May.
The doctor said the results is that I have kidney stones. She spoke to me like it wasn't a big deal. She said just to drink lots of water and to take pain killers and I will pass them through my urine.
It is now the end of May and I don't think any stones have passed and the pain is still there. My left side hurts from time to time as well. I am still able to work and do normal things but I want to know exactly what my results mean and how I should proceed to make my pain and whatever condition this is to go away.
This is my result:
Type of Examination:Renal
Admitting Diagnosis: SCAN
Renal U/S: The kidneys were scanned in multiple planes. Both kidneys are normal in size and ecopattern and demonstrate good corticomedullary differentiation. Small echogenic foci are seen in both kidneys suggestive of small, <0.5mm calculi. The right kidney measures 9.6cm and the left kidney measures 8.3cm long. No mass lesion or hydronephrosis is seen. The vesical bladder is normal morphology. Poor ureteric jet flow is demonstrated.
Impression: Bilateral, non-obstructing renal calculi
needs further evaluation

Hello
Thanks for the query
From the type of pain you are having and the fact that there was little blood in stools it points towards pain of gastric origin. Most likely because of gastric erosion. The only best investigation in your case would be to get an endoscopy done
Kidney stones of such small size does not cause pain so high up. Pain would be dull aching, typically in the lumbar region. You have a burning type of pain.
Here is what I think you should do
1. Take antacids. An ideal antacid would be tab omeprazole twice a day before food
2. Syp mucaine gel 2 tsp three times a day will bring down the burning.
3. get an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy done
4. continue to take the pain killers as advised
5 avoid milk, milk products , caffeine and smoking
6. avoid alcohol until you are better
7. eat regularly and on time. do not skip meals
8. do not sleep immediately after going eating. Stay up for 2 hours
I hope I was of help, if you have any clarifications/ doubts please get back to me

Hello
Thanks for getting back
I said too far up because you said there is burning near the stomach. Kidney stone pain is usually near the loins, in the lumbar region on the back side and not abdomen.
Calculi of less than 1mm does not require attention as they tend to pass off ( sometimes without knowledge) in the urine
. An obstructive stone leads to blockage in passing of urine and leads to enlargement of the kindey. Yours is a non obstructive stone.
The urteral jet flow is usually noted at the junction between the ureter ( pipe connecting kidney and bladder ) and the bladder. Slow jets are noted when this junction has an obstruction however in your case they have not mentioned if they noticed any obstruction. The only way to find out is by a urteroscopy ( a small camera will be put into the urethra and guided through the bladder into the ureter). I personally feel it is not required at this moment
I hope I was of help, if you have any further query please get back to me

Endoscopy
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Gastroenterologist usually does an endoscopy. It is not expensive, at our institute it's less than a 100 dollars. A regular clinic does not have endoscopy
