Question: What does the AST/ALT ratio suggest?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Klerida Shehu 2 hours later
Brief Answer:
Please follow...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Ast/alt ratio is used in clinical practise to evaluate the cause of liver damage.
usually in liver issues Alt is more elevated than Ast level, but in alcoholic liver disease Ast is more elevated than Alt.
So for example if the Ast/alt ratio is greater than 2:1 than it is suggestive for alcoholic liver disease.
Hope I was clear.

Detailed Answer:
hi back,
I review all your medical reports and I can say as follows :
At your case your transaminase level are within normal range.
With regards to ALT level I can say that it is slightly elevated. But in clinical practise ALT level should be twice of uper limit of normal. This is why in your case there is no importance on AST/ALT level.
Hope it was helpful to you.

According to my lab range, looking at my levels, would this be an indicator of possible cancer or cirrhosis?

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
hi back,
Please don't worry. Your transaminase as level are not indicative for cancer or cirrhosis.
I would suggest to repeat AST and alt level after 4 weeks to see if ALT level is increased.
wish you all the best.

One last question. Does liver pain means end stage liver disease?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Klerida Shehu 4 hours later
Brief Answer:
Please follow..

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Usually the liver issues are not related with pain.
Only in cases where the capsule of the liver( like large liver cancers) is involved it can cause pain. But the pain in liver region rarely is related with liver issues , mostly it is related with large bowel, gallbladder issues.
So the pain doesn't indicate severe liver cirrhosis.

Hope it was helpful to you.

recently had an ultrasound, MRI , MRCP, ERCP, and last year a CT scan of my abdomen. My doc said these all sensitive to findings of the liver tumors. Is that true?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Klerida Shehu 28 hours later
Brief Answer:
There is no finding suggestive for liver cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
If you have done all the exams mentioned above than there is no chance of cancer.
Because the sensitivity of these exams is really too high more than 99%.
Please bare one mind your findings are not suggestive for cancer.
Wish you health .
