What Does My Lab Test Results Indicate?
Question: Hello, doctor, I have pains in my right above my hip area when I get up from lying down in be or get up from a bed. I have a history of drinking carbonated beverages---substituting for fresh water. Would this mess with my kidneys to cause me pain? I am not one to complain healthwise. I received in the mail today a report from tests--one was on kidneys.Creatinine 0.76-1.27 mg/dL result 1.20 risk normal, eGFR>60 mL/1.73 m2 result 59 Abnormal. Can you inform me? Thank you in advance.

Based on your history and the findings noted, I would like to rule out hidden Chronic UTI(Urinary Tract Infection)-with undiagnosed urinary obstruction with BEP(Benign Enlarged Prostate) as a cause. The second close possibility could be Gastro-enteritis-which could be caused from -DFI-(dietary fructose Intolerance)-
I will advice you to consult an Urologist who can rule out those two possibilities.
As the eGFR is at 59 and there is high normal creatinine value, it suggest stressed renal function mostly from protein catabolism induced from -caffeine of the beverages and or/ from accompanied bladder and renal infection with enlarged prostate causing urinary obstruction. Therefore it would be worthwhile seeking help of nephrologist after discussing with urologist.
In the interim, you need to stop the exclusive beverage drinking. Need to review diabetes control to control UTI-(urinary tract infection) in your case is also suggested.
Simvastatin dose needs to be reviewed in your case in this scenario.
Diabetes drug treatment needs to be reviewed to control any hidden chronic infection with UTI (urinary Tract Infection) with enlarged prostate.
