What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Jul 2017
Question: My son is worried that he will be very short, something less than 5'10". He is currently just over 5' (about 5' 0.5"). He is 13 years and 1 month old. He just had a hand x-ray. The radiologist said his bones were the same as a 14 year old. The endocrinologist said his bones were the same as a 13.5 year old. They did not give a prediction of his future height.
I (his dad) am 5'10.5". His mom is 5'8".
How tall do you think he will be? Should we look into methods to increase his height?
Thank You!

Brief Answer:
Height close to his father's height.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HealthcareMagic,
I read it carefully and I can understand your concern.

Your son's height seems normal. He doesn't need to worry. Males gain more height when they are a bit older, so he will very soon get taller.

On the other side, it is very important that you have ruled out endocrinologic problems (which I hope the endocrinologist must've done already).

I would not recommend using methods of increasing height because they may cause more damage than help in this case when he doesn't have endocrinologic problems.

I cannot predict how tall he will be because that really varies from person to person. But he will surely be close to his father's height.

Hope this reassures you.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.
