What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?
Question: Hello sir,
My daughter is 2 years and six months old and we took her for a eye check up today and the report is that she has -1 and -1.25 cylindrical number in both eyes at 175 and 180 axis
Also it is written that her vision is 6/7.5
Is it normal to to have 6/7.5 vision at this age ?
Does she need to wear specks ?
Also can this cylindrical number increase with age and I hope this is nothing to do with kerotoconus ?
And secondly I see stars or glow worm type of light for some seconds after I sneeze hard ?
Is it normal or sign of retinal detachment ?

Firstly thanks for asking query oon this forum.
Your daughter has astigmatism.Wearing or not wearing eyeglasses will not make your astigmatism better or worse. If your astigmatism worsens, this will occur whether or not you wear your glasses. At present, there is no known medicine that can reduce astigmatism even mild uncorrected astigmatism often causes headaches and eye strain so she can use spects.
At early stages, the symptoms of keratoconus may be no different from those of any other refractive defect of the eye. As the disease progresses, vision deteriorates, sometimes rapidly.So to differenciate it from keratoconus only policy is wait and watch.
You are seeing floaters.The vitreous humour is the gel-like ball inside the eye. Most children and young people do not see floaters, but over time, bits of debris are discarded by the vitreous humour or retina that causes protein (connective tissue) to be released.Yes it could be a sign of retinal problem.Go for complete retinal examination.

Can small children like three year old suffer from kerotoconus ?
