default
Posted on Sat, 7 Nov 2015
Question: Hello doctor my weight was 73.8 on Feb 2 2015. I am29 years female married and do not have children. I did my total t3 t4 and tsh and my values were 0.987ng/ml, 7.20 micrograms/DL and 3.35 miu/ml.prolactin was 39.25 ng/ml and progesterone was 0.901 ng/ml. My sugar levels and other hormones were normal.the above tests I did on day 2 of my periods. My doc gave me cabalin 0.5mg for cabolin 0.5mg for 4 weeks and took two tabs per week. And she also put me on glycomet 500 2wice a day for 2 months. In April my tsh was 5.16 miu,/ml and prl was 1.3 ng/ml. Then she put me on eltroxin 25 MCG for 1month and stopped cabolin and ask me to continue glycomet 500. In may my tsh was 2.18miu/ml .I didn't trust her so I stopped the medications as recommended by another gynaec. In July my tsh was 4.25miu/ml. In august my tsh was 6.15iu/ml and prolactin was 25.7ng/ml. I was put on eltroxin 50mcg till date. Also I would like to brief that today I.e. 15th october I weigh 63kg. I from 2014 had a complain of less menstrual flow though I had my period cycle of 28 to 30 days. I have also experienced hair loss whenever I have lost weight. I am also taking PCO care forte, oosuregdm and rest one 2 twice a day from past 2 months. The last period cycle was on 28 sept and I could feel a 10 to 15 percent increase in my blood flow. Nobody in my family has a thyroid issue.my weight loss has been 1 kg / month from Feb 1st till date despite of all the workout and diet and even after taking the above medicines. I do not wish to continue thyroid anymore and neither suffer hair loss. I do not have any medical illnesses and do not wish to continue thyroid tablets for the rest of my life.. Its very frustrating. I am taking my weight loss very seriously and following a serious diet. please help me.

Brief Answer:
Eltroxin is not essential based on your test reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can understand your concerns.

As per your TSH values, the likelihood of thyroid illness is very less.

The need for eltroxin is hence very minimal.

So before withdrawing from Eltroxin, it is important that you do it gradually by dose tapering over a 2 week period.

This will help to prevent any withdrawal symptoms.

Tapering has to be done after consulting your endocrinologist/personal physician.

There should be other causes for hair loss in your case, but not hypothyroidism

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

hello doctor,

I got my thyroid levels and other blood tests done.I was 12 hours fasting and had not taken eltroxin 50 mcg in the morning before the blood collection. The results are as follows:
1.ft3- 4.4 pmol/ml
2. ft4 - 17.7 pmol/ml
3. tsh- 1.94miu/ml
4.vit b12- 807.8pg/ml
5.vit d3 - 61.2ng/ml
6.prolactin - 33ng/ml
7. esr - 10mm/hr
8. hb- 12.4 cells are normocytic and normochromic.

my query to you are as follows:
1. my dietician has given me multivitamins and some other medicines to prevent hairfall. The names are kerich plus, resvoglo-h ,certamin , easynac effervescent tablets,vit60k (once a month), endocal and wheatgrass (2 before breakfast and before dinner). All the above medicines except the ones mentioning the doses have to be taken once in the morning.
I am taking PCO care forte , Oosure gdm and restone for increasing blood flow. I spoke to the dietician and informed her the blood test values. she said that i should continue eltroxin 50mcg. however, pro care forte, oozier and restore i can discontinue once i get my periods this month( due on 28th of this month. in sept lamp was 22nd). i have seen only 20 percent of difference after taking the above medicines for increasing the blood flow.

Suppose if i were to continue the thyroid or any other allopathic medicines will the hair medicines have any side effects?

also can i continue the hair medicines lifetime?

I have been concerned that last time when i left eltroxin 25 mcg, in a months time, i suffered from a massive hairloss. I am not sure whether hairball is connected to thyroid or not since i have always had an hairfall issue since 10 years. aAter stopping the thyroid medicine was 6.10 in august.
I am concerned that if it rises again what do i do?
is eltroxin is something i have to do for lifetime? what are the side effects if it has be taken for lifetime.

Frankly i am scared to go to any other gynaec. Also, are my prolactin levels normal? If it rises, is it necessary to take medicines?

Will weight loss help in correcting the tsh?

I have gained my trust in you doctor. Please can you tell me the procedure to stop the eltroxin?

Brief Answer:
Reports are normal.Further thyroid evaluation will be a safety factor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I have gone through your query in detail.

With regards to yourself-

The recent lab reports seem to be normal.

Your dietician seems to provide the right kind of supplements to you.

The possibility of hypothyroidism is very less. But none the less, it should be ruled out with 100 % accuracy. This may need further tests.

As you expressed your wish for a telephonic conversation for a better understanding of the entire clinical scenario, I will give you all the necessary info with a through clarification of all your doubts to make you at ease, on receiving your phone call.

Do not worry.

With regards to your mother-The possibility of Degenerative Disc and a Joint disease is high.

This could be either Osteoarthritis with or without Lumbar disc disease.
This needs a careful evaluation of her condition.

X-ray both knees minimally needed at the moment.

You can also discuss in detail with regards to your mother on your phone conversation.

Looking forward to a complete discussion.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
