What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 May 2017
Question: My brain MRI says The ventricles and sulci are prominent, consistent with mild to moderate global
volume loss greater than expected for patient's stated age.
Everything else on MRI is normal. I'm a 33 year old male. What does this mean? The neorologist says this is normal, is it?

Brief Answer:
I agree it is a normal variation.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.

I have noted your brain MRI details. Based on this, I agree with your neurologist's view that it is within normal limits.

Prominent sulci usually occur in the setting of cerebral atrophy (shrinkage of brain). However, it can be seen in many normal people too. So, if your memory is normal, then, there is no need to worry.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
