What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Oct 2016
Question: I have a finding of "petrous apex opacification consistent with petrous apicitis" on MRI. I've called my neurologist's office, but they said to just keep my existing appointment which is in 6 weeks. Do I need to do something about this sooner?

Brief Answer:
Opacity is generally due to mild fluid which may be due to infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Opacity in petrous part of temporal bone is generally not a very serious finding.
It is generally due to mild fluid which may be due to infection.
Fluid is generally secreted in reaction to infection.
However, you may need clinical correlation. You may need to take antibiotics after clinical correlation.
You may only need follow up.

Get well soon.

Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
