Brief Answer:
Stroke information

Detailed Answer:
HI xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You have specifically asked questions about stroke. I will answer them one by one and try to give you some insight about stroke. As you have mentioned about plaque, it means you want to know about ischemic stroke.

1 - Stroke victims get another stroke more likely! It is true. It is because of bad arteries. Stroke victims have atherosclerotic arteries (full of fragile lipid tissue). It is mostly because of breakdown of this lipid, they get first and next stroke.

Lipid deposition occurs more in them due to bad diet habits, familial inheritance, smoking, diabetes, stress.

2 - Now a days, stroke patients have very good survival rate. The estimated worldwide 30-day case fatality rate after first ischemic stroke ranges from 16 to 23 %. However it varies depending upon size of stroke (bigger area - bad), age (old age - bad), associated co-morbidities (Diabetes, hypertension, smoking - bad), region (MCA, brainstem - bad).

3 - You should be worried, but not super worried. You should be worried so that you can follow a healthy life style and remain motivated for same.
You should follow few steps to avoid stroke or heart attack

- Dont do smoking ever
- Keep your weight under check. Your BMI should be in 18-25.
- Avoid mental stress. Do Yoga or meditation on regular basis
- Regularly check your blood sugar to prevent Diabetes.
- Regular follow up to your doctor

I think this much will be sufficient for you. As you are young, you will be able to follow it completely.

4 - You can get either ischemic stroke if plaque ruptures and block brain vessel or heart attack if plaque blocks coronary artery.

Hope I have answered your queries completely. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
