What Does "low Grade Intraepithelial Lesion" In Pap Smear Test Indicate?

Question: Hi. I have just had a 2nd smear test done by a Gynaecologist.It shows low grade intraepithelial lesion.The Gynae wants to wait 6mths before repeating my next smear .Im very anxious about this waiting period.Is my gynaecologist correct on this decision ? feel some more test should be done now ? Would I be correct on this ? Im female too.Gender in medical history states male.

Brief Answer: colposcopy guided biopsy Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX, thanks for trusting health care magic. In my opinion you are a high risk patient for developing cancer cervix because of - 45 years of age - history of HPV - low grade lesion on Pap this time. In my practice I deal with this situation by doing a colposcope guided biopsy and eventual histopathological examination of the tissue. It is a very useful test and sure shot diagnosis can be made. Thankyou Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX for your reply.I think my Gynaecologist has already done the Colpscopy the one with the XXXXXXX So Im to wait 6 months until next biopsy,if comes back abnormal again what would the next step be ?? Thankyou. XXXX

Brief Answer: repeat report if abnormal, LEEP advised Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX I would suggest you to wait for 6 months now and if after 6 months the biopsy report comes abnormal again then you should get a procedure called LEEP. After that risk of cancer will come down significantly but you will still need to maintain strict yearly follow up with Pap smear. Wish you the best of health. Take care.
