Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: Hi doctor

I got married 9 months back , since last 3 cycles are irregular and then I consulted a doctor and he has conducted pelvis examination and found that I have PCOD complain and its begin stage and they suggested for treatment

For past 40 days I am suggested to take Metital tab and weekly once gapgolin tab , then last week is my mensural cycle but luckily it's delayed for 4 days then I tested UPT and found positive , I tested 3 times and it's positive only , so I have consulted the doctor since I am working in abroad , also I have abdominal pain and kip pain s there sometimes , when I walk then I feel much ,

Then the doctor asked me to stop taking Metital and take these tables for next 3 months
1. Tab gapgolin - next 3 months ( 1 time per week )
2. Tab SUSTEN 300 - everyday bed time for 3 months
My questions are

Is there any side effects because of this to baby ?
Why should I need to take this ?
Stopping of metital is ok for my PCOD issue even its begin stage ?
Can I travel during next 3 months to home by flight ? Is that safe ?
What kind of food can I take during this days ?

Please advise sir

Brief Answer:
These medicines are needed during pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
1. The medicines that have been prescribed to you are to prevent early miscarriage. These are commonly used in pregnancy and are well tolerated. Cabgolin will help in correcting the hormonal imbalance due to PCOD.
2. Metital needs to be stopped as it is not needed during pregnancy. The treatment of PCOD may be needed when you want to plan another baby.
3. If there is no complications like bleeding or pain in lower abdomen or excessive vomiting and all goes well then you can safely travel.
4. You need a healthy diet with plenty of fluids. Avoid spicy and fatty foods. Do take small meals at regular intervals.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
1. Lower abdominal pain can be due to many reasons. Do get an ultrasound scan done and a routine urine test to rule out a urinary infection.
2. The periods feeling can be due to uterine contractions. It is normal.
3. You can continue with walks and regular household work.
4. A yellow color discharge indicates infection. A vaginal swab culture will help in diagnosis and it needs to be treated.
5. Do get the cause of pain diagnosed after consulting your gynecologist for proper treatment.
6. You can take boiled eggs. As far as diet is concerned you can have egg and dry fruits but try to avoid spicy food and take less salt.Green leafy vegetables , fresh fruits , whole grains , pulses should be taken more often.Eat frequent but small meals. If you feel nausea doctor will give you doxylamine tablets.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Brief Answer:
One and a half months to 2 months pregnancy.

The pregnancy duration is calculated from the date of your last periods. The HCG levels that you have mentioned are suggestive of 5-7 weeks pregnancy- around 1 1/2 to 2 months pregnancy.
