Question: Hello Doctor,
This is regarding my 2 yrs old son XXXXXs health. Few days back I have conducted the T3, T4 & TSH test for him. I found his TSH is 9.74.I have consulted with an Endocrinologist Dr in BTM layout, Bangalore. He has suggested to wait for another 30 days and we will repeat the test again and if its increasing then we need to start treatment.

I am bit concerned with this now and seek your valuable advice on this.

Waiting for your reply.

Regards,
XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
start the treatment.

Detailed Answer:
dear XXXXXXX hi! i know what you are going through. actually treating hypothyroidism in children is divided in two school of thoughts. one conventional group believes wait and watch. another group thinks treat fast and treat accurately. i belong to the second group and believe children with TSH above 5.5 should be treated immediately with the right dose. and quickly brought to normal levels. then maintained there for another 1 year or more till they are above 3 years of age. brain develops maximally till 3 years . then we can take off the drug and see what happens. also helpful would be to do his TPO and TGA antibodies. they would make the decisiion easy to treat if comes positive. regards!
