What Does Elevated Microalbuminuria With History Of Diabetes Indicate?
Question: I'm XXXX professor in a medical college. Having diabetes and HTN since 32 years.im on the following medications.
lantus 26 at 8pm XXXXXXX rapid 12,8,and8 units.for htn telma h morning amlodipine 5 evening.ecospirin av evening besides 1500ug methy cobalamine. 2months back microalbuminuria was normal 27mg/g creatinine at a Ramachandran diabetic institute XXXXXXX few days back I checked once again it is 65mg/g.indicating microalbuminuria. Kindly suggest me further line of treatments wether it is reversibl.

Microalbuminuria is the earliest sign of injury to the kidney and is seen in several conditions.
You being a diabetic for such a long time, does not really need this test. It has several fallacies in performing and interpretation of result and applicability of such result in clinical practice. It is best suited for an experimental condition where in one time test to demonstrate a subtle renal tissue injury. It has no relevance in your case.
You don't need to undergo the same test again. Rather you can undergo complete urine test to see the semi quantitative test if protein followed by 24 hours urinary protein or spot protein creatinine ratio once in every six months. These tests are the better predictors of kidney injury and prognosticate you better than the mucroalbumun test at thIs time for you.
