Question: Hi there,

I am on lyrica and probably drinking too much alcohol too. I have been dry retching every morning and the only thing that stops it is a very strong drink! it started with anxiety and I just tried a drink so that I could get to work. I also have dyspepsia and am so tired of it all, waking in the morning retching, drinking etc. can you help?

Brief Answer:
Your tecovery depends on your proper life style and food.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,
Thanks choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.

Basically dyspepsia results when the acid of the stomach comes in contact with the mucosa of the digestive tract. These acids cause a breakdown of the mucosa leading to inflammation and irritation, which leads to indigestion. It may also result from eating disorders or certain medications.Alcohol damages the gastric mucosa and aggravates the symptoms of gastritis and causes severe gastric erosion eading to inflammation of the mucosa.

Rx-
Take a proton pump inhibitor like Esomeprazole 40 mg twice daily along with a prokinetic drug (eg.Domperidone) for 3 days. This will provide you symptomatic relief from symptoms.
Any over counter probiotic should be taken for few days to provide relief in symptoms of indigestion.

General precautions-
Don't sleep immediately after eating, wait for at least two hours before you go to bed
Avoid spicy foods as they tend to aggravate symptoms of dyspepsia
Space out your meals, eat multiple smaller meals instead of few large ones
Restrict smoking and alcohol consumption

Hope i answered your query with relevent details.

Thank you for that - the biggest issue is that I am on lyrica due to severe anxiety and I wake first thing in the morning and immediately start retching hence why I have a drink! I’m tapering off at the moment but just wondered if the lyrica could be causing the dyspepsia?

Brief Answer:
Pregab side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hello my dear patient,
Yes pregabalin may cause severe dyspepsia however its very uncommon but it may occur.
Take lyrica always with a proton pump inhibitot to minimise heartburn nausea and giddiness.Nausea is also because of pregabalin only.
Take 40 mg nexium once daily in morning and evening an nausea dyspepsia would go away.
Thanks.
