What Does An Inflamed Cyst Below The Neck Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: I have a cyst just below my neck at the top of my rib cage and it has become inflamed but will not drain completely. It is now red and ugly and scaly. What type of surgeon should I look for? Can it be removed in a doctors office? I am on kidney dialysis and have to be there every other day for four hours so I need to know what to do and where to go. The cyst has been there for years and only twice before has it flared up. I used ichthannol before but it is no longer available. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
see a surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

You need to show it to a general surgeon first. As per your history and symptoms it could be an infected sebaceous cyst, but it needs clinical examination for confirmation. And a general surgeon is a compitant person to remove it.

And if its indeed a sebaceous cyst, it can be removed in local anaesthesia on opd basis itself.

Hope, i have been helpful.
