What Does A Red Rash On Penis Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Nov 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,

About three months ago I made a huge mistake I had protected oral and vaginal sex with a window sex-worker in Amsterdam. Prior to this brief encounter, I had had a clean XXXXXXX of health for HIV, hepatitis etc (I'm nto sure if syphilis was tested for) (for IVF treatment). I had never had any previous obvious symptoms of herpes or syphilis in the genital area.

About 6 weeks later, and after rough and un-lubricated masturbation, I developed a red raw patch on the head of my penis (about 3mm long). It is not raised nor sore. I have previously had similar injuries but they have gone away whilst this one has now been there for a about 6 weeks.

My understanding was that, if I had caught syphilis or genital herpes, the primary infection would be in an area not covered by the condom. Am I wrong, and does this sound like herpes or syphilis?

As per the description given and photo it does not appear like syphilis or herpes. As you had protected intercourse it is unlikely.
Though herpes can occur even by skin to skin contact or kiss. The lesions do not appear like herpes or syphilis.
It is more likely due to abrasion or injury or friction.
You can clean area and apply mupirocin cream.
See that there is no friction or irritation.no inter course for now. Wear loose clothes.

Thank you for your quick reply. Could you confirm that any initial outbreak of herpes or syphilis would occur in an area not covered by the condom? Thank you so much.

yes can occur.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
Herpes can be transmitted by sexual intercourse or by skin to skin contact or kiss. The chances are high when active lesions are present.
So it can occur in areas not covered by condom.
You can get back for any clarification else please close the discussion and rate
