Posted on Wed, 26 Apr 2017
Question: About a month ago while sticking my hand somewhere in a drawer or under a cabinet here in the deep south I noted a small hole on the thumb side of my left index finger. It swelled up then burst and was healing -Now it is doing the same thing.

I know that before the hole showed up there was no issue.mI am a healthy 70 year old with no illnesses at this time.

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history well and understood the concerns.
The recurrent pin hole lesion on the index finger can be due to one of the following reasons:
- Pilonidal sinus or like it.
- Cyst opened up but the secretary line still active hence opened up again, active like a sinus.
- Retained very small Foreign body.
Please post the clear photos if possible as they help for on-the-spot diagnosis.
Wait and watch if only a small opening without any or small swelling.
Sometimes excision or exploration may cure the problem.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
