Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: Hello doctor. I just noticed my 3 year old son has a protruding hard lump on his lower back. Slightly above his right buttocks, near the "dimples". When he sits and bends forward, the lump is obvious. It feels bony. He doesn't express pain when pressed.can you help me please. I'm a worried mother.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.

There is nothing to worry in this.
There is a normal bony prominence in the back, near dimples. This forms a part of sacro iliac joint, and is formed by posterior superior iliac spine(a prominence on the back of pelvic bone).
If you carefully watch, you can see this prominence on both sides.

Hope I have answered your query.
Take care.
Thank you.
