What Does A Lump In Below The Larynx Indicate?
Question: Dear Dr,
Hi.
I have a six (6) month old daughter. There are times when she is sleeping, both my wife and I must hold back our cough and sneeze just so she does not wake up to the sudden sound.
There were occasions when I sneezed a few times by holding back the sound and force of it. Few months ago, I noticed that I have a stiff pea sized bulge on the right side above the adam's apple and below the larynx (on the right side), and somehow I feel it is linked to the force of the sneezes I have held back in the past.
I have felt this bulge a few times and it feels like a raised bone. I do not have any other symptoms other than pain when swallowing and the random stiffness around my trachea (which loosens up when I press on this bulge).
I have a history of smoking and drinking.

Lymph nodes are the commonest lumps in the area. They can enlarge because of local infection or tumors in laryngeal region.
B) Lipoma which is a benign fat deposit.
Get a complete physical evaluation .
Only a thorough checkup will differentiate the conditions.

I will get the evaluation done soon, but was just wondering, the two possibilities you suggested - will any of it require surgery?
What is the possibility of this being anything close to cancer?
