default
Posted on Sat, 26 Jul 2014
Question: Hi I have been to the ENT twice already and have had my throat checked with a scope up my nose. I have a lump in the back left side of my throat next to the back of my tongue. It sticks up and looks like a flap its rihjt under my tonsil almost runs back do2n the throat. I can c it and feel it. The doc said it was lymphoid tissue. I have had this for about 10 months now and I have a constant globas sensation. I now have swollen glands on the left side of my neck. The doc told me it would go away on its own and it has not grew in size butbis still there. How do I get rid of this? Im scared thinking I have cancer. Please help this is killing me

Brief Answer:
from description seems like lymphoid follicles

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

From your description what I can infer is that there is pinkish mass on left side below the tonsil or near lower pole of tonsil.

In this region, there is normally present lymphoid tissue. The size may vary at different times.

If your doctor says after endoscopic examination that this is normal, I suppose that you are observing these lymphoid follicles.

Please use antiseptic gargles along with proton pump inhibitors for few weeks. Also get a complete ENT & dental examination done to rule out any infective focus in the vicinity. This should decrease the size somewhat and your neck gland size should also come down.

If you still feel worried and your doctor thinks that a biopsy is warrantied which usually is not, you can go ahead with it.

Also if you are a tobacco user, please stop using it.

Feel free to ask another query.

Regards

doc thank u. I have already taken antibiotics like 3 times and no change in the lymphatic tissue. I try to ignore it but theres always a constant feeling of something there's. I think it is rubbing on something else in my throat. There r 3 lymph nodes right next to each other almost the size of marbles swollen on the left side of my neck almost roward the back of the neck. Same side as the lump in my throat. This has been going on for almost a year....can I get this removed? Will it ever go a away?

Brief Answer:
No need to remove

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.

This can be removed but there is no need to remove it.

Still to alleviate your fear, you can go ahead with fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) from the lymph nodes. This will rule out the possibility of malignancy.

It may decrease in size with time but may not go own its own and these thing s are normally present in most people, so you should not wirry about these.
