What Does A Large Bump On Testicle Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: My sixteen year old son has a large bump on his testicle, about the size of a pinky fingernail. The area surrounding it is very purple and blue--looks very bruised. It appears to look like a pimple or ingrown hair, but has grow in size over the past few weeks and is painful to the touch. I have him scheduled to see a dermatologist tomorrow, but am wondering if I should be consulting some other specialist first?

Thanks for you help.

Brief Answer:
Photograph of bumpy testicle is needed....

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Can you please send in a photo of your son's bump on his testicle?

From your description, it seemed to be related to:
- any recent trauma locally occurred
- infection of testicles
- Hydrocele/varicocele
- infection of hair follicles

You can get it first examined from the dermatologist and wait for his/her opinion first.

If I was his caring doctor, I would also advise to :
- consult with an urologist too (apart consultation with dermatologist)
- get an ultrasound of testicles or any other tests urologist would ask to do based on physical examination.

Looking forward to have the photograph in!
