What Does A Hard Lump Under The Nipple Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Jul 2014
Question: I recently find a hard lump that is around 2 by 2 cm underneath my right nipple. I think it has been there for around less than one month. There is no superficial lesion on top of the nipple and skin. However, it is a little bit painful when i palpate it. it doesnt feel like it is attached to the muscles, quite solid and maybe movable too....

I am not sure whether it is related to any hormonal issues. I am very stressed with the exam recently. I have not been taking any steroid or any form of protein powder for muscle building. I had some multivitamin for male which was started around 1 month to 2 months ago. Fish oil is another daily supplement I am currently having.

Brief Answer:
could be gynaecomastia

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

The features you are telling about the lump goes more in favor of gynaecomastia. Gynaecomastia is benign enlargment of breast in males .

it presents as painful lump beneath nipple without skin changes and XXXXXXX . The cause for this is hormonal imbalance which may occur due to stress or increase in weight. These both condition likely cause increased oestrogen level and enlargement of breast.

Though the characters of lump and your age favors the diagnosis of gynaecomastia I would like to suggest you to consult a surgeon and get needle biopsy done. This will rule out rare breast malignancy which occur in 1% males.

After confirming gynaecomastia next plan would be excision of lump .

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. Now i think about it more carefully, i think there is some more stuff i would like to update.

During the last months, i have been eating much less because of the tight uni schedules. Moreover, I dont think my diet is very balanced at all... mostly just some random roasted meat or noodles. Will this contribute to the potential gymnecomastia i got?

Moreover, i would like to ask whether it is possible for the lump (assume it is gymnecomastia) to disappear spontaneously if i restore a "normal" diet and lifestyle?

I haven't made any medical appointment yet, but i will definitely go and get it check, probably after my exam.

Thank you so much for your time. =]

Brief Answer:
fatty diet may be associated

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As such reduced diet is not responsible for gynaecomastia. Diet rich in fatty and oily foods will cause increase in body fat which in turn gets converted to oestrogen and precipitate gynaecomastia.

The fat will be organised to form a hard lump so it is unlikely to get resolved after balancing your diet.

Its not emergency to consult a doctor you can consult after your exams and get treated.
Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
