What Does A Fixed, Painless, Marble Sized Lump On Collar Bone Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: Hello,
I recently found a fixed, painless, marble sized lump just below the collar bone on the middle, right side. What could this most likely be? I have to make a decision about insurance ASAP. I would like to wait 90 days and get it checked out then if possible.
I am a 41 year old female. My whole upper body and neck stay very tight due to exercise and stress also, so I'm wondering if it could be related to that? I get a monthly massage and just started yoga to ease those symptoms.
Also, I went to a breast specialist last year with a scare because one breast started to get larger than the other off and on and the doctor said that was normal for my age and didn't see anything on my mammogram or sonogram....not even cysts.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need to see an oncologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I have gone through your complete query.
It appears that the lump that you have described is arising either from the breast (since the human breast starts just below the collar bone), or from the underlying bone , i.e. ribs.
Either way, this needs to be examined by an oncologist. This examination will ascertain 3 things---
1. First, that there is a pathological lesion. Sometimes, there is nothing significant and the patient just has such a feeling.
2. Whether the swelling is arising from the bone or the breast.
3. What further investigations will be needed to come to a diagnosis and hence decide the treatment.
I would suggest that you meet him as soon as possible rather than waiting on it.
Normally, it will require some form of imaging like mammography or ultrasound, and a biopsy to reach a diagnosis.
I hope this answers your queries. If there are any more, I will be happy to answer.
Take care.
