default
Posted on Fri, 13 Jun 2014
Question: I have a dark purple ball on my lingual frenulum. It occurred suddenly while I was eating breakfast. No injury involved. It was large and red but within 20 minutes it shrank and became dark purple. It has remained so for 24+ hours. No pain, no high BP condition, very healthy.

Brief Answer:
hematoma, mucocele, enucleation

Detailed Answer:
thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. the dark purple ball kind of structure could be a hematoma secondary to any trauma while brushing your teeth or any prick from the food items.
it could be mucocele or ranula that is cystic lesion arising from salivary glands. consult a oral physician and get yourself completely examined to rule out the above said conditions.
if the lesion does not subside you might have to take radiographs and ultrasound of that region to rule out any stone in the gland duct.
if it is diagnosed as hematoma, if i am your treating doctor i would have suggested you to apply hot and cold fomentation alternatively. if it is diagnosed as mucocele or ranula then i would have advised surgical enucleation.
i hope my answer will help you. take care. if any queries are there reply me back.
