What Does A Burning Sensation On Lower Legs And Foot Suggest?
Question: My right lower leg and foot feels like a burning inferno inside. I cannot bear weight on the heel. Feels like stepping on aa thousand needles. Not plantar fasciitis. Been ruled out. I have only 30% lung function from collapsed upper lobe, repaired at Duke using balloon therapy w/6 broncs, one of which was rigid w/general anesth. I have stage 3 COPD, emphasema, no asethma. Have had 2 back surgeries for decompression at T10-T11, and 10 years later (2010) @ L4, L5, S1. Took a fall in 2000 and broke leg hip, where femur enters hip socket, repaired with ORIF and permanent hardware, of which I am painfully aware at all times. My pulmonary deficit and my burning right foot and leg are my primary concerns at this time. What kind of doctor might help me? Ready for your answer....

The right foot and leg burning causes have to be explored.if it is due to neuropathy,gabapentin or neurontin and methycobalamin may help.If it is due to vascular problem then, a doppler ultrasound of leg and foot may be diagnostic.Blood sugar tests, levels of VITAMIn B12 and B6 should also be estimated
help from a neurologist and a vascular surgeon may be needed.
An MRI spine for L4-5-S1 operation site for reassessment if any secondary arthritic changes in facet joints or impingement of nerve roots by osteophytes of arthritis-
EMG (electromyography) of leg musclesfor further nerve conduction studies
