Dear XXXX

Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.

Glomerular filtration rate is the best test to indicate kindey functioning. The normal value is 125ml/min. In patients with diabetic nephropathy, the kidney function declines over time. This leads to fall in the GFR.

Your GFR is more than 60. however, can you please quote the eact GFR. More than 60 can be 90 which is abnormal, and can be 125 which is normal.

I would also recommend you to have a serum creatinine done, along with urine microalbuminuria test, 24 hr quantitative urinary proteins.

This will help us to clarify if you have a real kindey problem.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.

Brief Answer:
normal renal function

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
I have read your blood reports. I feel happy to tell you that your kidney function is normal. The serum creatinine is well within the normal range. They have done a GFR calculation with MDRD formula and hence it says more than 60.

Many a times in diabetic patients, the creatinine is normal but there is albuminuria. I would recommend you to have a urine test for microalbuminuria and 24 hour quantitative protein estimation.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker

Brief Answer:
DTPA scan

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

The egfr is an estimate based on the MDRD formula. DTPA scan is a real time test for estimating GFR. this is not used commonly though.

Brief Answer:
your kidneys are normal

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

Your kidney function is normal right now. To be thorough, I have suggested urine microalbuminuria and 24 hr urine protein to be 100% foolproof.
