What Do Vomiting And Leg Pain In A 6 Year Old Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: I am a little concerned about my 6 year old daughter. Last night she became overly emotional about us moving and did not each much dinner. Took one bite of cake that was offered. She woke later than usual this morning and complained of her leg hurting near her right hip joint. She was fine at the water park we went to (2 hours) but vomitted upon finishing her lunch. She vomitted just once. She has taken a long nap. I woke her but she has since rolled back over to sleep. She has no fever. We did just switch from East Coast time to Mountain Time zone. Just wondering if this is something I need to worry about now or what I should be on the look out for.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that due to the emotional upset she did not eat much last night. Now, the stomach acids are secreted all thoughout the day and night and are intended to help in digestion. So, when there was not much to act upon (due to the low volume of dinner), the excess acids gave her some gastric irritation which in turn lead to the vomiting. I do not think that you need to get concerned. Give her some food. You can give her some antacid syrup. If there is more vomiting give her ORS (oral rehydration solution) to make up for the lost water and salts. I am sure that she would soon be fine.

Look out for fever. The increased sleep could be due to electrolyte depeletion, thus calling for ORS to be given. If however she appears lethargic, it would be a good idea to see a doctor.

Regards
