What Do This ANA Test Report Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 7 Oct 2016
Question: Hello, I recently got a + ANA and a +RNP 1.5. My Dr told me that is a very low positive and not concerned. She gave me a bottle of adrenal support pills to take. Is 1.5 nothing? I'm concerned with mixed connective tissue disease obviously and am having a lot of symptoms, which is why I had her test me for autoimmune disease. The testing stopped after the first + which was the RNP so I have no idea if there's anything else. I also have MTHFR homozygous c677t and hypothyroid. If the +1.5 is nothing, could it be something else causing me issues or is the 1.5 actually an issue? Do I need to see a rheumatologist or just take the adrenal pills? Thank you!

Well, yes your antibodies are weakly. positive for autoimmune disease. But I would like to know the symptoms why they have been carried out firstly. It has a low probability when done without symptoms as it can be false positive..

So if you could throw a light on your symptoms, it would give me more clarity and will be able to guide you better

Hi Dr Naval,
Should I test for addtl autoimmune diesases, if my sympyoms aren't due to my +RNP?
Im extremly fatigued, weak and tired. Im pretty fit and havent been able to workout at all. My hands are puffy, sore stiff muscles, neck rash, dry eyes that sting, on and off mouth sores, constant burning throat, chest pain/problmes breathing, reflux/gerd, always cold especially my hands, tingling fingers and feet, very bloated, weight gain.

Sorry for the late reply, as I myself was down with viral. So couldnt log on...

Well, The symptoms you have can go in with an autoimmune disease like Sjogrens syndrome/Scleroderma or an overlap...But yes, at this stage it is important to know the exact values and cut of for the test done...

Your symptoms dont fit into one particular disease, but can be either an overlap( like 2 diseases with few symptoms) or some other problem which we are dealing with...How to confirm, always a tough call?

The other issue which I was thinking is Fibromyalgia, which can manifest in the same way as your symptoms are. But this is a diagnosis of exclusion and if your ANA and RNP are positive, we cant ignore it either..

SO what I would suggest is: Either you repeat ANA, ENA profile, CPK, ESR from a different lab once more and see how the results are.. Whether positive or negative. If still positive, we should treat on the lines of autoimmune disease. If negative, we can treat it as Fibromyalgia. It is important, as the treatment and further monitoring will differ according to the results...

IF you could attach the results, it would be helpful...

DO let me know for more queries
