What Do These Stool Test Results Indicate?

Question: Hi,

I recently had a stool test done as I have an annoying taste in my mouth that wont go away even after dental check ups. I was just wondering if you could check my results for me please and see if theres anything wrong? My anaerobic bacteria results look really bad I guess? I dont have any symptoms other than the mouth problem, I have no stomach problems, no diahrea or anything like that.

Have put links to my results below :

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The stool pH is 8.0 and is in alkaline range. This happens when there is imbalance between the good and bad bacteria in the large bowel. Correction of the bacterial balance restores it to normal range.

2. Your E coli count is on the higher side. This is a group of bacteria which are found in the large bowel of humans and there are many types of E coli. Most E coli are harmless. However 6 subtypes of E coli might cause release of toxins and are symptoms specific in causing diarrhea. Since you do not have diarrhea, it is possible that the non diarrhea causing E coli number are higher. This is not a serious concern.

3. Anaerobic bacteria like lactobacillus, bifidobacteria and bacteroides are low in number and these are the good bacteria. This can be restored to normal by taking lactobacillus supplement. Balancing the counts of aerobic and anerobic bacteria will also normalize the pH.

4. Low secretory IgA means that there is less number of IgA antibodies. This happens due to decreased ability of the body to fight an allergy. The low IgA counts might be seen in celiac disease, Crohns, ulcerative and those with increased stress level. Taking probiotics, beta glucans and digestive enzymes which might increase levels of essential fatty acids, glutathione, glycine, glutamine, phosphatidylcholine, Vitamin C and Zinc are recommended.

5. In conclusion, there is no serious concern if you are not having any symptoms of large bowel dysfunction. However, you might like to incorporate the above suggestions to normalize the anaerobic bacteria, restore stool pH and increase secretory IgA levels.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
