What Do These Lab Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Jul 2017
Question: My daughter appears to have what looks like Petechiae on her legs which then appeared on her feet now with lines going from ones on legs to feet after an antibiotic. She has been to 3 doctors included a dermatologist and no one know what it is but I do know that her iron and vitamin D were low. It has turned from purplish in color to brownish. We are getting upset and do not know if we should consult an additional physician and if we do what specialty as we do not know what has caused this?

Brief Answer:
Answer few questions, upload pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at HealthcareMagic
I have gone through the reports and she has taken multiple medications including antibiotics.
I would recommend you to upload the photographs of the affected areas so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you accordingly.
Besides this I need to ask you few questions:
What is the duration of the rash?
Is it associated with itching, pain, burning or any other local symptoms?
Is your daughter having any other symptoms like joint pains, abdominal pain, fever, cough, breathlessness, fatigue, bodyaches?
Is the rash persistant or it comes and goes?
Kindly revert with the photographs and the answers.
Regards
Dr Asmeet

no she really has no other symptoms and it is not a rash it us under the skin. no itching or pain. She has no injury so we do not know what would have caused such a thing.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be pigmented purpuric dermatoses, consult a dermatologist

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs and it seems to be pigmented purpuric dermatoses whivh is chronic pigmentary disease of the skin.
In most of the cases it occurs without any cause but can be seen in persons with thyroid disease, diabetes and obesity.
It is very resistant to treatment.
Various therapies have been tried for it with varying results like phototherapy, calcium dobesilate and pimecrolimus.
I would recommend you to consult a dermatologist for this.
Also rule out any underlying coagulopathy and go for coagulation studies.
