default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Mammography and Ultra Sound Result Showing:

There is diffusely increased glandular parenchyma, predominantly involving supero-lateral quadrant in both breasts. Left breast reveals well defined iso/hypoeechoic lesion of 9x8mm in infero-medial quadrant with similar smaller lesion in infero-lateral quadrant.

Opinion: Mammography findings are suggestive of:
1. Changes of Fibro-adenosis bilaterally s/o benign etiology (BIRADS II)
2. well defined iso/hypoeechoic lesion in infero-medial quadrant and infero-lateral quadrant in left breast s/o benign etiology (BIRADS II)? Fibro-Adenomas.

Pl provide information what it means and is there any symptoms something related to breast Cancer?

Brief Answer:
Not at all related to breast cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and specific information and specific questions.
To recapitulate salient features: Female/33 - Mammography and Ultrasound shows changes of bilateral fibroadenosis Birads it means benign means non-cancerous. In radiological language this is called BIRADS II and means benign findings and this is meant for the Radiologist to decide.
As the name suggest Fibro-adenosis means there is proliferation/ more than normal growth of the fibrous as well as adenomatous cells/tissues in the breast. These cause the breasts to change its consistency and since these tissues are governed by the hormonal changes, there can be pain and tenderness that usually occur just before the menstrual periods. These do not have well marked capsule hence not easily palpable and not well defined.

Fibro-ademona: as the name suggests the is aggregation of the fibrous as well as adenomatous tissues again, but in this case it is encapsulated, means is contained by its own capsule and is not governed by hormonal changes hence not changed or cause any symptoms as per the menstrual cycle. Since it is encapsulated the are painless, non-tender swellings which are freely XXXXXXX in the tissues of breasts.

Fortunately both these changes do not undergo cancer changes at all.
You may please continue the empirical treatment you have so well been prescribed as it helps in some of the patients.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
