default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: I recently had some preventive tests done and noted some out of normal range results.
High Sensitive C - Reactive Protein (HSCRP) was 6.74 (normal range 1-3)
Lipoprotein (LPA) was 70 (normal range is <30)
Iron was 41 (normal range 60-180)
25-OH Vitamin D (Total) was 6.14 (normal range 30-100)

Please advise what this mean and if I need to take any medication.

Brief Answer:
Iron, Calcium supplements and Cardiac evaluation required.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the details.

I have gone through the details and understand your concerns.

You might be suffering with Iron deficiency anaemia as your serum Iron level is low. I do not see any report on peripheral smear of the blood in the Blood analysis report, might be it was not done. You require Iron supplements in form of tablets and Iron rich diet.

Your Vitamin D level is low, as you have mentioned that you do not follow any regular physical exercise routine and it is commonly seen in XXXXXXX women. I would suggest you to see an Orthopedician who will suggest you to start with Vitamin D supplements like D rise sachets and Calcium tablets. Along with the medications I would advise you to start following regular physical exercise routine in the early morning hours like walking or jogging. The exposure to early morning sunlight will help in production of Vitamin D in our body naturally.

Regarding Lipoprotein and HsCRP tests, the levels are high and it does suggests high susceptibility towards cardiac disease in future but it doesn't confirm it. You do not have any family history of cardiac attacks but you are overweight. I would suggest you to lose weight around 20 kgs to come in normal range of the BMI and get a cardiac evaluation done from a good hospital in your place. Usually in females, we do not see any cardiac attacks till menopause. But as the levels are high it would be better to rule out any cardiac ailments and can follow measures to prevent any cardiac problems in future.

Hope this answers your query. Any further clarifications, will be happy to help you.

Regards.
