Question: I had a sexual encounter when in college about 12 years back when I was 17 and I remember something like a chancre on my partner. Recently I read about syphillis and got tested. Rpr(vdrl ) came non reactive and tpha negative. Should l still go for any test or treatment.

Brief Answer:
You are free from Syphilis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
All the sores over genitals are not necessarily due to Syphilis or chancre. All who exposed to an infected individual are not necessarily get the infection.
When your RPR test and TPHA tests were nonreactive, it is sure that you are free from Syphilis. Nothing to worry. No necessary for further test.

As the incident was so long back can it cause non reactive results but the bacteria already entered cns. Should I think about getting my csf tested, which will show different result from blood test. Also I have never had any symptoms all these years.

Brief Answer:
No possibility of Syphilis for you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Untreated Syphilis however longer duration it might be, will never reveal a non-reactive report. Spontaneous nonreactivity cannot occur in the absence of any treatment. There is nothing like a CNS involvement with Syphilis in the absence of non-reactive syphilitic report.
Nothing to worry.
