What Do The Following MRI Reports Post Bypass Surgery Indicate?
Question: Hello dr. My father is 64 years old. Had underwent a bypass surgery in 2010. These are his mri reports. What does these reports shows? He was feeling numbness in in hand and leg for 10/15 scs from last two days.

Hello XXXX,
I have gone through your father's MRI report and complains.
Firstly, the report is showing some gliotic scar in right lentiform nucleus which is old and may have occurred at the time of bypass or in between. AS your father is having risk for atherosclerosis suggested by his past history of bypass, there is possibility of unnoticed lacunar infarct.
IS your father diabetic, hypertensive, smoker or alcoholic.
Second part is his current complain of numbness in hand and leg for few seconds. If it is unilateral then either it is a transient ischemic attacks with increased risk of near stroke or it may be sensory seizure phenomenon.
If the numbness is bilateral then a possibility of cervical spondylosis has to be evaluated.
AS your father is having bypass he must be on some blood thinner like aspirin or clopidogrel. These will also work as preventive therapy for stroke too.
BUt I will advice you to consult a neurologist for proper examination , investigations and treatment .

Thanks. Yes doc he is a diabetic and taking medicines from last 12 years. And taking medicines for hypertation too
