Question: I have ferritin level of 310 along with Dhea of 359.8 and a c reactive 1.54. My iron level is normal. My hair has been falling out for the past 6 months fast. otherwise I am a healthy 55 year old in a healthy weight and excersise 5 days a week. I do not smoke. been to 7 doctors. 2 are telling me to go on spironolactone however the side effects scare me and that will only help my dhea level nothing else. I have had a cat scan and mri showing my adrenal glands have no turmors and my ovaries have no cysts! I am really going crazy with whole thing. A internest put me on .5 armour thyroid even tho my levels seem to be normal. my liver blood work is normal

Brief Answer:
Endocrine

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to note your hair loss.

I see you thyroid and other tests have come back normal. It is indeed perplexing then , as to why you continue to experience hair loss.

I also understand you are in reasonably good health.

When I see someone like you in my practice I order the following tests:

CBC
CMP
TSH
Free T4
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
HbA1c

It is likely you have undergone most if not all of these tests considering you have been to 7 doctors. However it would be worth confirming that the results of all these tests are normal.

For example, anemia detected on a CBC can cause hair loss.
Stress from any major illness can result in hair loss, even much later. This is know as telogen effluvium in medical terms.

I know your thyroid checked out normal but sometimes the Free T4 is required for the full picture. Of course this test will not be of much value if it is done while you are still on armour thyroid.

Have you seen an endocrinologist in person?

Yes I have seen a endocrinologist just last month. He wants me to go on the Spironolactone to bring down my Dhea level. But the side affects look scarey and why is my Ferritin and c reactive high? I had the scans for adrenal and overy what was normal. I am told I do not have Anemia. Vitamin. in d is normal. tsh normal. white blood cell count 3.3/mch 33.3 and mvp 7,2. These numbers I am told are just slightly off. Should I check XXXXXXX disease of adrenal exhaustion? should I go to a oncologist? I am worried about cancer with these blood work results. should I test for Hemochromatosis due to high ferritin? I am told it is expensive but I don't care. I just need to figure this out.

Detailed Answer:
Addisons disease/adrenal insufficiency is unlikely. But you may wish to check for it. The correct test to screen for this would be an 8 am morning cortisol.

Instead of an oncologistI suggest with a Hematologist, for the ferritin and abnormal white counts. C reactive protein rises in various conditions like infection and stress.
