default
Posted on Wed, 28 Oct 2015
Question: Hi XXXXXXX here , I'm only 22 years old
I had my BP Tested around 10 times in 2 days .
1 reading:120/80 (1st day)
2 reading:130/80 and since this is slightly elevated I got my sugar tested and it came out as normal.
That same day
3rd reading:150/90
4th reading: 150/80
I was very anxious the whole time and doctor gave me medicine Anxitin and vitamin for 2days
next day out of nervousness I went to doc again
5 th reading :150/90
I was asked to get an ECG done and it came back as normal
and then my BP
6th reading :120/70
Later after 3 hrs I went to doctor again and my BP was
7th reading:140/80

I was told by the physician that my ecg was normal and It is because you are very anxious.
He asked me not to worry and asked me to take anxitin(0.25mg) for 5 days during night. He also called it WHITE COAT SYNDROME.

All this started because I went to doc for some tiny muscle spasms that happens all over my body rarely.

My bmi is 24.8 ,very nervous and anxious person especially around doctors(GOOGLE always says I have some problem :( )

Should I be very worried ?????????

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry,it is due to anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM,

I have read your all blood pressure reading and understand the concern.

First of all, I would clearly say that you do not have any issue regarding blood pressure so no need to worry about it.

Whenever, you got slightly higher systolic blood pressure reading, it is clearly related to your anxiety, you may call it as a ‘white coat hypertension’ which is not a abnormal or any disease or pathology.

Our systolic blood pressure fluctuates more than our diastolic blood pressure just like pulse rate which keeps changing all the time according to our posture, mental status etc.

I have seen plenty of young guys who have this kind of anxiety and found their blood pressure on a slightly higher side but this is completely normal.

You can take anxiolytic drugs to alleviate from anxiety for few days in night time as prescribed by your doctor.

When you will go back to home from doctor's clinic and take your blood pressure from digital BP instrument (after taking rest for half an hour),you reading will come absolutely normal.

Overall, there is nothing to be worried here. Also there is no need to search on google further for the same which might increase your anxiety rather than solving the issue.

So, be rested and remove from your mind that you are having hypertension.

Hope this will help you.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
